The “Welcome to Wilson, NC, Mr. Hughes” is a two-part website, featuring cumulative research on the renowned African-American poet, Langston Hughes and his visit to Wilson, NC during National Negro History Week in 1949. Hughes’ longest published poem, “Freedom’s Plow,” which was performed to him during his visit, is interwoven within the tour and research posts of the site.
When first coming to the website, readers can choose to “Start the Trip” or “Learn More.” They will also find research updates in red at the bottom of the starting page.
By choosing the trip option, readers are able to trace Hughes' steps in Wilson, NC through "Freedom's Plow." They will also be presented with a short synopsis of events that happened at the visited places.
By choosing the “Learn More” option, readers are presented with more detailed, updated posts on the Hughes’ in Wilson, NC research, as well as a deeper analysis of “Freedom’s Plow.”
